Summer Activities
of the Czech Music Society
The SOCIETY FOR
EARLY MUSIC

Every year during
the first 10 days of July the INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL FOR EARLY MUSIC
opens its doors to about 350 students of all age levels, amateurs and
professionals, natives and foreigners. The courses take place in VALTICE
in a charming green district of South Moravia vineyards, former dominion
of the noble family of Lichtensteins.
More than twenty lecturers,
early music specialists from the Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, Austria
and UK dedicate their time and art to enthusiastiv lovers of early music.
They teach solo and choral singing, gregorian and medieval chant, recorder
and transverse flute, baroque violin and cello, luste, viola da gamba
and harpsichord and last but not least also renaissance and baroque dances.
Many participants
come with their children, who are taken care of in special classes Under
the guidance of special pedagogues they play in a children´s orchestra,
learn folk songs and historic dances.
Every evening the
whole early music fans family gathers in a splendid baroque marmor Spanish
Horse Stable next to the Valtice chateau where the lecturers and their
best pupils give concerts.
The FRIENDS OF
CHAMBER MUSIC in Bechyne

In the first days
of July, in a lovely small South Bohemia spa-town Becheyne a traditional
musical event took place for the 25th time: FRIENDS OF CHAMBER MUSIC,
amateurs and professionals, met for 11 days in order to study under the
guidance of outstanding Czech artists and pedagogues. They studied piano,
violin, viola, violincello and double bass, flute, chamber music and orchestra.
Every night the participants
could enjoy concerts of famous musicians, organized by the South Bohemia
Festival. Though this interpretation courses are not promoted as "international",
they are open also to participants from abroad.
The SOCIETY FOR
MUSIC EDUCATION

Every year, at the
beginning of July and at the end of August, the SOCIETY FOR MUSIC EDUCATION
organizes SUMMER SCHOOLS OF MUSIC EDUCATION, meant for students and music
teachers of all levels and all kinds of schools. These special courses
aim to innovate the M.E. Summer Schools takes place in Rychnov and Knéznou,
a small town in East Bohemia at the foot of Orlické Hills, not
far from the Polish border. The courses are open also to family members
who can enjoy the most beautiful and romantic surroundings of Rychnov.
The SEVENTH WORLD
HARP CONGRESS IN PRAGUE
The extemely sucessful
SEVENTH WORLD HARP CONGRESS was held in in Prague from 19th till 25th
July 1999 in Hilton Prague Hotel and in many Prague concert halls. The
Artistic Director was Mrs. Jana Bousková, a world -famous Czech
harpist.
The World Harp Congress
takes place every three years. After Maastricht, Jerusalem, Vienna, Paris,
Copenhagen and Seatlle, the Prague 7th Congress hosted about 1000 participants,
among them many of the best harpists (some were only 11 or 12 years old).
During the Congress , the participants and harp-lovers attended more than
80 events: meetings, workshops, lectures, master-classes, discussions,
performances and concerts.
The Congress focused
on many kinds and types of instruments: historic and classical harps,
jazz and folk harps, Chinese and Latin American harps etc. Concert programs
included a great number of contemporary music, some of the compositions
written especially for this occasion.
An exhibition and
sale forum of beautiful harps, offered by famous harp manufacturers, was
one of the most interesting events.
